Perplexity brings its Comet browser to Android

Perplexity has unveiled its AI-powered browser, Comet, now available for Android users, marking a significant step in mobile browsing technology. This innovative app integrates Perplexity’s built-in AI assistant, allowing users to engage with the content of their tabs through questions and commands.

Comet is positioned as one of the pioneering AI-centric browsers on mobile platforms, following its successful desktop launch for Perplexity Max subscribers earlier this year. While other competitors like ChatGPT Atlas remain exclusive to macOS, and Google’s Gemini functions more as an extension within Chrome, Comet offers a more comprehensive AI browsing experience.

The Android version mirrors many features found in its desktop counterpart, including a voice mode that facilitates conversational interactions about the information displayed in tabs. Users can also request summaries of web content, enhancing their browsing efficiency. However, the current version does not support syncing browsing history or bookmarks between mobile and desktop applications. Beejoli Shah, a spokesperson for Perplexity, has indicated that this feature is on the roadmap for future updates.

In addition to syncing capabilities, Perplexity is actively developing further enhancements for Comet, such as a fully agentic voice mode and a built-in password manager. For now, users can still utilize Android’s existing password management features while navigating the browser.
