Pixel 11’s new Pixel Search app could be coming to older Pixels

In a recent update from the Android Authority team, intriguing developments have emerged regarding the Pixel Search app. The latest release hints at the possibility of this expanded search functionality being made available to older Pixel devices, potentially reaching back to the Pixel 6 series.

Details from the Code

Analysis of the Pixel Search app version 1.0.983036833 has revealed significant code that suggests compatibility with devices launched since 2021, specifically the Pixel 6 and newer models. This opens the door for older Pixels to access the app, contingent upon the stable release of Android 17 QPR2, anticipated in December 2026.

However, there is a notable caveat. The Pixel 6 and 6 Pro have officially reached their end-of-life status with the rollout of Android 17 QPR1. As a result, these models were excluded from the beta program for Android 17 QPR2, which is set to arrive just after the completion of their promised five years of support.

Future Prospects

While the code leaves a glimmer of hope for Pixel 6 and 6 Pro users to access the Pixel Search app, the requirement for a recent Android 17 QPR2 release poses a challenge. It raises questions about whether Google might relax this requirement or if a surprise update could be in the works for these models, although such an update seems unlikely without an active beta program. Consequently, support for the Pixel Search app may ultimately be limited to the Pixel 6a and newer devices.

As always, it’s important to note that APK teardowns, while insightful, are not guarantees of future features. The predicted capabilities may not necessarily make their way into a public release, leaving users in a state of anticipation.
