Pixel Watch app update adds new icon, more M3 Expressive

Google has recently enhanced the Pixel Watch app for Android devices, introducing a fresh wave of updates that include a new homescreen icon and several design tweaks. This update, version 4.1.0.810754319, is being rolled out widely in anticipation of the Pixel Watch 4’s arrival on store shelves.

Icon Redesign

The previous icon featured a generic representation of a watch adorned in Google’s signature colors—blue, red, yellow, and green. While it served its purpose, many found it visually cluttered and lacking in appeal. In contrast, the new icon boasts a more photorealistic design that captures the elegant curves of the watch case, crown, and band. The hour and minute hands are now pill-shaped, aligning with the Material 3 aesthetic.

In terms of color, the new palette leans towards blue and purple, harmonizing with recent updates to the Alarm, Timer, and Stopwatch app icons. This shift from the traditional Google color scheme hints at a more distinct branding strategy for Pixel products, positioning the new Pixel Watch icon within the same family as the My Pixel app.

User Experience Enhancements

Version 4.1 also introduces a story-like carousel at the top of the main feed, which serves as a guide through various features such as Fitbit, Personal Safety, Gemini, and Wallet. This engaging introduction is complemented by the playful Material 3 Expressive stylings that enhance the overall user experience.

Moreover, the app’s second-level menus have received a makeover, now featuring M3 Expressive elements. Each menu item is neatly contained, providing visual separation and grouping that enhances usability. The Tiles screen has also been updated to reflect this new design language.

As the Pixel Watch app continues to evolve, these updates signify Google’s commitment to refining user experience while maintaining a cohesive and appealing aesthetic across its Pixel product line.
