After making its debut on Apple TV, the official Pocket Casts app has now expanded its reach, becoming available for download on Android TV and Google TV devices. This transition marks a significant step for the popular podcasting platform, which has taken a few months to adapt its features for Android set-top boxes.
Unlike the previous method of casting from mobile devices, this version of Pocket Casts is a native app, meticulously designed to function seamlessly once paired with an existing user account. The experience is specifically tailored for television screens, boasting several enhancements that elevate user engagement.
Among the notable features is a dedicated “Made for TV” section, which showcases video podcasts along with promoted content. This allows users to enjoy highlighted material in a dual format—watching and listening simultaneously. Visually, the app retains a striking resemblance to its Apple TV counterpart, ensuring familiarity for users transitioning between platforms.
Pairing the app with your account is a straightforward process, utilizing a QR code for quick access. Once connected, all podcast subscriptions, playlists, and account data are synchronized, providing a cohesive experience across devices. Users can initiate playback of a podcast and then either close the app or minimize it, with the audio continuing uninterrupted. Furthermore, any upcoming podcasts in the queue are easily accessible as quick links, allowing for swift navigation or the ability to resume where you left off, thanks to the retention of playback information across devices.
It’s important to note that while the app has recently become widely available, some users may encounter challenges when searching directly on their Google TV or Android TV devices. However, a workaround exists: users can “force” the download of Pocket Casts through a web browser by selecting any connected devices on the Play Store.
