Windows 11 is getting close to resuming your Android apps like Apple Handoff

Microsoft is enhancing its Cross-Device Resume feature, a tool designed to streamline the user experience across devices. Initially introduced in 2025, this functionality allows users to seamlessly transition from their Android devices to their Windows PCs, picking up their app activities right where they left off. For instance, if a user is working on OneDrive via their Android phone, they can easily continue their work on a PC without missing a beat.

Expanded Features for Enhanced User Experience

In a recent announcement on the Windows Insider blog, Microsoft revealed the rollout of Windows 11 builds 26100.7701 and 26200.7701 (KB5074105) for the Release Preview Channel. The first build targets version 24H2, while the second is aimed at version 25H2. This update brings significant enhancements to Cross-Device Resume, including the ability to resume Spotify playback directly from a phone to a PC. Users will also benefit from the capability to continue browsing sessions and work within Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Moreover, the update introduces additional conveniences for specific Android phone users. For instance:

  • Vivo Android phone users can now continue their browsing sessions from the Vivo browser directly on their PC.
  • Users of Android devices from brands like HONOR, OPPO, Samsung, Vivo, and Xiaomi can pick up online files opened in the Microsoft Copilot app on their phones and continue editing them on their PCs. If the corresponding Microsoft 365 app is installed on the PC, the files will open there; otherwise, they will launch in the default web browser. However, it’s important to note that this feature does not support offline files stored solely on the phone.

This update also includes several other enhancements, such as the ability to toggle Smart App Control without the need for a clean installation and the introduction of a Device card on the Settings home page. With Cross-Device Resume now available in the Release Preview Channel, a broader rollout to stable versions appears to be on the horizon.
