Meta’s Messenger gets WhatsApp-like ‘Communities’ feature. Here’s how it works

Meta Introduces ‘Communities’ Feature on Messenger

Meta has rolled out a new ‘Communities’ feature on Messenger, allowing users to join a community without being part of the Facebook group. This feature, initially introduced on WhatsApp in 2022, is now available to all Messenger users.

Enhanced Interaction for Organizations and Private Groups

Admins can now create up to 5,000 member communities for real-time chatting, without the requirement of being part of the same Facebook Group. This new feature is expected to benefit organizations, schools, and private groups by facilitating more coordinated and structured interactions.

How Communities on Messenger Work

Meta explains that users can create dedicated communities on Messenger to connect with people who share similar interests. These communities, managed by community admins, are open for anyone on Messenger to find and join. They differ from Facebook groups and have distinct features tailored for public conversations.

Meta AI Chatbot for WhatsApp Business Accounts

Meta has also introduced its AI chatbot, Meta AI, for WhatsApp business accounts in India and other countries. This feature aims to help businesses enhance customer support and discover new products. Additionally, the AI chatbot can assist businesses in creating ads on Facebook and Instagram.

Meta Verified Programme for WhatsApp Business Users

Meta has launched the Verified programme for WhatsApp business app users in India, Brazil, Indonesia, and Colombia. Verified users will receive enhanced account support, the ability to use WhatsApp across multiple devices, and a blue checkmark next to their business name on WhatsApp Channel and custom WhatsApp page.
