Microsoft Launcher Beta Integrates Copilot AI
August 2023 marked a significant update for Microsoft’s Launcher app on Android devices, as it introduced a beta version featuring an AI chatbot initially known as Bing Chat. This feature allowed users to interact with the chatbot using text or voice prompts, streamlining the process of seeking information and assistance directly from their smartphone or tablet’s interface.
As the year progressed, Microsoft transitioned from the Bing Chat moniker to a more definitive label for its AI chatbot, settling on the name Copilot in November 2023. Despite this rebranding, the Microsoft Launcher app maintained the Bing icon within its search functionality for some time.
However, a recent update has brought a full integration of the Copilot AI into the Microsoft Launcher app. Beta testers of the app were greeted with a new version that not only replaces the Bing Chat icon but also incorporates Copilot’s capabilities seamlessly into the user experience. This update was reported by Windows Central, highlighting the app’s evolution.
For those enrolled in the Microsoft Launcher beta program, the latest version is now available for download from the Google Play Store, identified as v6.240402.2.1139391. The update notes emphasize several enhancements:
- Effortless Access: Copilot is now readily available with a simple swipe, offering immediate assistance with queries and content generation.
- Creative Power: Users can now create images and text directly from their mobile feed using straightforward language.
- Pro Performance: Those utilizing Copilot Pro will experience a more agile and responsive interaction.
While the release date for Copilot features in the non-beta version of the Microsoft Launcher remains unannounced, Android users have had the opportunity to engage with Copilot through Microsoft’s standalone app since December 2023.
It is important to note, as Windows Central does, that certain Copilot Pro functionalities, such as Vacation Planner, Cooking Assistant, Fitness Trainer, and Notebook, which are available in the standalone app, have not yet been incorporated into the Microsoft Launcher app.
