Minecraft Is Making Changes To Minecoins On Nintendo Platforms

Starting on 27th October 2026, Minecoins purchased on Nintendo systems will only be usable on those devices, including the original Switch and Switch 2. Minecoins bought on other platforms will not be applicable for purchases on Nintendo devices. Existing Minecoins will be transferred to a Legacy Wallet for continued use across different platforms, with no expiration date, but they will be used first in transactions. Players are advised to check the packaging of retail Minecoin cards for platform compatibility. Mojang has confirmed a digital upgrade path for current Switch players transitioning to Switch 2.

Google Gemini is becoming easier to access across Android

A recent update to the Google app has introduced the Ask Gemini button within Android's text selection menu, simplifying the process of querying the Gemini AI. This feature allows users to engage with Gemini by long-pressing the power button on most Android devices, and upon tapping the Ask Gemini option, selected text is automatically pasted into the Gemini app for immediate use. Minecraft coming to Nintendo Switch 2 on October 27 with enhanced visuals and Mario mash-up update

Google Assistant to Be Discontinued on Android and Wear OS on September 6

The Google Assistant will be discontinued on Android and Wear OS devices effective September 4, with users receiving notifications about this change. The Gemini chatbot is set to replace the legacy Assistant, which was initially planned for last year but faced delays. Dedicated versions of Gemini are available for connected speakers and Google TV. Google has assured users of a seamless transition to Gemini, which will become the sole assistant on Android devices after the legacy Assistant is phased out. The retirement process may take several weeks, during which users will gradually lose access to the old Assistant. The legacy Assistant will also be discontinued on Wear OS smartwatches, headphones, and Android Auto after the September deadline, but will remain available in vehicles with Google built-in until September 4, 2026.

Former Microsoft dev brings Windows Task Manager to Mac

Dave W. Plummer, the original developer of the Windows Task Manager, has launched a beta project called Task Manager OG (TMOG) as an alternative to macOS's Activity Monitor. TMOG is built from scratch using Swift and does not contain any code from Windows XP. Microsoft provided Plummer with the source code of the XP Task Manager, but TMOG is independent. Initially intended for distribution through the Mac App Store, TMOG will instead be available for direct download due to Apple's sandboxing restrictions and guidelines against terminating other applications. Plummer plans to develop a Windows version and potentially a Pro version in the future.

Microsoft Starts Offering Free PC Versions of Your Ubisoft Games on Xbox

Microsoft and Ubisoft have launched a "console-to-PC" promotion that allows digital owners of select Ubisoft titles on Xbox to transition their gaming experience to PC. Eligible games include Assassin's Creed Mirage, Assassin's Creed Valhalla, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, Far Cry 6, Immortals Fenyx Rising, Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown, Riders Republic, Skull and Bones, The Crew 2, The Crew Motorfest, Rainbow Six Extraction, Rainbow Six Siege, and Watch Dogs Legion. Players need to link their Ubisoft and Xbox accounts to access the promotion, and new purchases on Xbox will be available on PC via Ubisoft Connect. Downloadable content (DLC) is included, but purchased consumables are restricted to the original platform. Only selected games that support cross-progression allow save file transfers. The promotion does not include the latest Assassin's Creed entries, Shadows and Black Flag Resynced, and it operates in one direction, meaning purchases on Ubisoft Connect do not unlock games in the Xbox store.
