Google brings agentic AI and vibe-coded widgets to Android

Google introduced new AI features under the Gemini Intelligence brand at its Android Show: I/O Edition event. These features allow users to perform tasks across applications, navigate the web, fill out forms, dictate speech, and create personalized Android widgets using natural language. Gemini's capabilities now include managing multi-step processes, such as copying a grocery list and adding items to a shopping cart, with user confirmation required before checkout. A web browsing feature that allows Gemini to book appointments is being rolled out to Android devices, and by late June, it will be integrated into Chrome on Android. Gemini can also fill out forms using insights from Personal Intelligence, with an opt-in option for users. Additionally, Gemini will be integrated into Android's Gboard keyboard, featuring a tool called Rambler that transcribes speech while removing filler words. Users can create Android widgets through natural language descriptions, and Gemini will follow Google's Material 3 design language. The rollout of these features is expected to start this summer on Samsung Galaxy and Google Pixel devices, with wider availability later in the year.

Microsoft tests Auto SR, its AI upscaler for Xbox and Windows gaming

Microsoft has introduced a preview of Auto SR, an AI-driven upscaling technology for Xbox Insiders using the ROG Xbox Ally X handheld. This feature upgrades game output from 720p to 1440p and increases frame rates by about 30% in docked mode. Auto SR operates at the OS level, requiring no developer patches, but is limited to games that support DirectX 11 and 12, excluding titles using DirectX 9, Vulkan, and OpenGL. Currently, it is available only for the ROG Xbox Ally X and Copilot+ PCs with Snapdragon X chips, and the preview is invite-only and docked mode only. Early feedback indicates some user interface artifacts and a battery drain of 8–12% on the Ally X. A broader rollout for Windows began on April 30, 2026, but no specific consumer launch date has been announced. Auto SR is not intended for the upcoming Project Helix Xbox console, which will use AMD FSR Diamond instead.

WhatsApp testing Facebook Messenger-like notification bubbles, details here

Google is quietly making Search a little more colorful

Google loses app store antitrust appeal, must make sweeping changes to Play Store

OneDrive for Mac will soon give you more flexible storage options

OneDrive for Mac will soon support syncing with removable external drives, following the previous support for non-removable drives. This feature is available to Insiders using build 25.097 or later on macOS 15.0 or later. The external drives must be formatted for APFS, protected by FileVault, and not be read-only, network drives, or marked as quarantined. Users cannot transfer external drives between Macs for migrating OneDrive files; they must reconfigure OneDrive on the new device. Microsoft is seeking user feedback on this feature but has not provided a timeline for wider availability.
