Google brings agentic AI and vibe-coded widgets to Android

Google unveiled an array of innovative AI features under the Gemini Intelligence brand during its Android Show: I/O Edition event on Tuesday. These enhancements empower users to accomplish tasks seamlessly across applications, navigate the web, fill out forms, dictate speech, and even create personalized Android widgets through natural language descriptions.

Gemini gets more powerful

Earlier this year, at the Samsung Galaxy S26 launch, Google had already showcased some of Gemini’s agentic capabilities, such as ordering food and booking rides. During that event, the company hinted at Gemini’s ability to tackle more intricate tasks, including reserving a front-row bike for a spin class and locating class syllabi in Gmail, followed by searching for relevant books.

Now, Gemini’s capabilities have expanded further, allowing the AI assistant to manage multi-step processes. For instance, users can instruct Gemini to copy a grocery list from their notes app and then add those items to their shopping cart. This feature is activated by pressing the phone’s power button and verbally outlining the task, with the phone’s screen content providing context. Notably, Gemini will await user confirmation before finalizing any checkout process.

Additionally, a feature introduced in January, which enabled Gemini to browse the web for users and complete tasks like booking appointments, is now being rolled out to Android devices. By late June, Gemini will also be integrated into Chrome on Android, offering users the ability to summarize content or inquire about details on web pages, mirroring its desktop functionality.

Another practical enhancement allows Gemini to fill out forms on behalf of users, leveraging insights gathered through Personal Intelligence. Google assures users that this feature is opt-in, with the option to disable it at any time through settings.

Gemini will also be incorporated into Android’s Gboard keyboard. This integration introduces a feature called Rambler, which utilizes Gemini’s multimodal capabilities. Users can dictate in their unique tone, and the AI will transcribe the speech while eliminating filler words for a cleaner output.

As the trend of vibe-coding applications gains momentum, Google is keen to offer Android users a taste of this innovation. The company is launching a feature that enables users to create Android widgets by simply describing them in natural language. For example, a user might say, “Suggest three high-protein meal prep recipes every week” to generate a meal-planning widget.

While the concept of widget creation is not entirely new to Gemini, it echoes similar tools released by hardware startup Nothing last year.

Google has stated that Gemini Intelligence will adhere to the company’s Material 3 expressive design language, ensuring a cohesive and aesthetically pleasing user experience. The rollout of these AI-powered features is set to commence this summer on the latest Samsung Galaxy and Google Pixel devices, with broader availability across other Android devices anticipated later in the year.
