WhatsApp is currently in the process of developing a feature that will introduce notification bubbles on Android devices. This innovative addition aims to enhance user experience by allowing for easier access to conversations without the need to fully launch the app. While the feature is still under development and not yet available for beta testing, it promises to streamline communication on the platform.

Enhancing Multitasking with Notification Bubbles

According to insights from WABetaInfo, the forthcoming notification bubbles are designed to improve the visibility of chats on Android. This feature will facilitate a quicker method for users to read and respond to messages while engaging with other applications. By integrating closely with the Android notification system, WhatsApp aims to enhance multitasking capabilities during ongoing conversations.

Notification bubbles will function as floating icons on the screen, allowing users to access their chats even when immersed in other activities, such as watching videos or browsing. When a new message arrives, a bubble will appear, showcasing the contact or group’s profile picture alongside the WhatsApp logo. A simple tap on the bubble will reveal a compact chat window, enabling users to read and respond to messages instantly.

This feature draws parallels to the chat bubbles found in applications like Facebook Messenger. While some users may appreciate the convenience it offers for multitasking, others might perceive it as a potential distraction. However, WhatsApp will provide users with the option to disable this feature at their discretion.

Notification bubbles are expected to be compatible with devices running Android 10 and above, with optimal performance on Android 11 and newer versions. The availability of this feature will depend on individual device settings, and users may need to enable it manually.

In addition to the notification bubbles, WhatsApp is also planning a redesign of its top app bar. The app name is set to be replaced with the official logo, marking a significant shift from a layout that has remained largely unchanged since 2013. This redesign may also pave the way for potential status updates in the top bar, indicating a broader reorganization of the app’s interface.

As WhatsApp continues to refine these features, the company is poised to roll them out first to select beta testers before making them available to a wider audience. Overall, these updates reflect WhatsApp’s commitment to enhancing messaging efficiency and seamlessly integrating with the Android ecosystem.
