Announcing Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 27754 (Canary Channel)

Hello Windows Insiders. Today marks the release of the Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 27754 to the Canary Channel. It is important to note that we currently do not plan to release SDKs for the 27xxx series builds.

What’s new with Build 27754

Modernized Windows Hello

At Microsoft, our dedication to security and enhancing user experiences remains unwavering. Following the introduction of enhanced passkey features in September 2023, we are now elevating the Windows Hello user experience. This significant update aligns Windows Hello with modern visual design standards, emphasizing intuitive and seamless authentication.

Modernized Windows Hello Visual Communication: The revamped visuals for Windows Hello are crafted to ensure swift and clear communication, appearing on the Windows Sign-in screen and throughout various authentication flows, including passkeys and the Microsoft Store.

Revamped Windows Hello Credential User Experience: We have redesigned the user experience for Windows security credentials related to passkeys, creating a cleaner interface that supports secure and rapid authentication. Users can now switch between authentication options and select passkeys or devices more intuitively.

This new experience will also extend to the upcoming administrator protection feature, currently in preview with Windows Insiders in the latest Canary Channel builds. For further details on administrator protection, please refer to our blog post highlighting our investments in adminless experiences from Microsoft Ignite.

FEEDBACK: We encourage you to share your thoughts in the Feedback Hub (WIN + F) under Security and Privacy > Passwordless experience.

Changes and Improvements

[General]

  • Holding Shift and CTRL while clicking on a jump list item in the Start menu or taskbar will now launch that item as an administrator, similar to clicking the app icon itself with Shift + CTRL.

[Taskbar & System Tray]

  • We have enhanced the previews that appear when hovering over apps on the taskbar, along with improved animations based on Insider feedback.

  • A simplified system tray is being tested, which highlights the date/time in a shortened format and displays the notifications bell icon based on DND status. Users can access notifications by clicking the date and time. The long form of the date/time and bell icon visuals can be restored through Settings.

Known Issues

[General]

Reminders for Windows Insiders in the Canary Channel

  • The builds released to the Canary Channel represent early platform changes and should not be viewed as tied to any specific Windows release. Features may evolve, be removed, or replaced based on feedback.
  • Many Canary Channel features are rolled out using Control Feature Rollout technology, starting with a subset of Insiders and gradually expanding based on feedback.
  • Some features may debut in the Dev and Beta Channels before appearing in the Canary Channel.
  • Localization for features in active development will occur over time. Please report any localization issues via the Feedback Hub.
  • To exit the Canary Channel, a clean installation of Windows 11 is required. Insiders cannot switch to a channel with lower build numbers without a clean install.
  • The desktop watermark in the lower right corner is standard for these pre-release builds.
  • For a comprehensive overview of build statuses across Insider channels, visit Flight Hub.
