Copilot on Windows: Vision and file search begin rolling out to Windows Insiders

Hello Windows Insiders,

Enhancements to Microsoft Copilot App

Microsoft is pleased to announce the rollout of an update for the Copilot app on Windows, available through the Microsoft Store. This update introduces a suite of new features designed to enhance user experience and streamline workflows.

File Search: Users can now effortlessly locate, open, and inquire about the contents of files stored on their devices directly from the Copilot app. This feature supports a variety of file types, including .docx, .xlsx, .pptx, .txt, .pdf, and .json. By adjusting permissions in the Copilot Settings under Permission settings, users can control what Copilot can access, retrieve, or read. For instance, you can ask Copilot questions like:

  • “Can you find my resume?”
  • “Open the trip planning document I was working on last week.”
  • “Look at my budget file and tell me how much I spent on dining last month.”

Copilot Vision on Windows: This innovative feature allows users to share any browser or app window with Copilot. Once shared, Copilot can analyze the content, provide insights, and answer questions, guiding users through their tasks with spoken assistance. To initiate this feature, simply click the glasses icon in your composer, select the desired browser window or app, and ask Copilot for help. To end the sharing session, just press ‘Stop’ or ‘X’ in the composer.

This update, version 1.25034.133.0 and higher, is being gradually rolled out across all Insider Channels via the Microsoft Store. Initially, Copilot Vision on Windows will be available to Insiders in the U.S., while the file search feature will be accessible to Insiders worldwide. As with all updates, the rollout will occur in phases, so not all Insiders will receive the update simultaneously. Microsoft is excited to preview these enhancements with its Insiders, ensuring that all customers enjoy an exceptional Copilot experience on Windows.

FEEDBACK: Users are encouraged to provide feedback directly within the Copilot app by clicking on their profile icon and selecting “Give feedback.”

Thank you,

The Microsoft Copilot Team
