Yet, I was determined to find a modern solution and stumbled upon Seelen UI, a fully customizable desktop environment designed specifically for Windows. As a devoted Linux user, I must admit: Seelen UI is impressively well-crafted.
According to its GitHub page, Seelen UI aims to elevate the Windows desktop experience with a strong emphasis on customization and productivity. It integrates seamlessly into the system, offering a plethora of features that allow users to personalize their workspace and optimize their workflows. After installing Seelen UI on the Windows 11 device, I was genuinely pleased with the transformation. While I remain committed to Linux, I can confidently say that for those who find the default Windows 11 interface lacking, Seelen UI is a compelling alternative.

It’s important to note that Seelen UI requires both Microsoft Edge and WebView to function properly. While WebView is typically pre-installed on Windows 11, Windows 10 users may need to install it separately. Fortunately, the installer includes WebView, so be sure to enable it during setup.
Once installed, launching the app will guide users through a helpful Welcome wizard. However, a word of caution: Windows users are often accustomed to a plethora of third-party plugins and themes. As with any software installation on Windows, it’s wise to exercise caution, as some additions may carry unintended risks. While Seelen UI itself is reputable, vigilance is always advisable.
Customizing Seelen UI
Customizing Seelen UI is a user-friendly experience. Users can access the Seelen UI settings manager through their Windows launcher, where they can make various adjustments and introduce new modules and themes. I opted for the Round Toolbar theme, the (Almost) Liquid Glass Dockbar theme, and the Fancy Toolbar, which collectively created a visually appealing desktop reminiscent of the Budgie environment found in Linux.
For those unfamiliar, Budgie is known for its elegant and highly customizable design. After implementing these themes, the Windows 11 desktop transformed into a more inviting space—one that I found enjoyable to navigate. While the customization process can be time-consuming, the payoff is significant. If you find yourself constrained by the aesthetics of Windows but wish to enhance your experience, Seelen UI may just be the solution to make your time on Windows a more pleasant endeavor.
