As part of the Windows Insider Program, Microsoft has rolled out several preview builds of Windows 11 in early June 2026. While these updates may not have introduced a plethora of new features, the focus has been on refining and enhancing existing functionalities. In the first half of June, a new Beta channel for version 26H1 was launched, showcasing a variety of features and improvements, including the introduction of Screen Tint and Low Latency Profile.

The most notable changes from Microsoft since the last update are as follows:
Screen Tint: A New Feature
In build 28020.2298, Microsoft introduced an accessibility feature called “Screen Tint” within the new Beta channel for version 26H1. This system-wide color overlay aims to alleviate eye strain by softening overly bright or saturated displays. Unlike the Night Light feature, which primarily targets blue light reduction for evening use, Screen Tint adjusts the overall intensity and color tone of the display during daylight hours. Microsoft emphasizes that both features can coexist, addressing different user needs.
Users can access this feature through Settings > Accessibility > Vision > Screen Tint, where they can choose from six preset tint colors or create a custom hue.
Low Latency Profile
Another significant addition is the Low Latency Profile, which temporarily boosts processor frequency for 1 to 3 seconds during interactive tasks. This feature is designed to minimize delays when launching applications or accessing menus like the Start menu and File Explorer. Users can expect application launch times to improve by up to 40 percent and interaction times with system features to increase by as much as 70 percent. Notably, this feature operates automatically, with no manual toggle available in the Settings app or Control Panel.
Responsiveness improvements will vary based on hardware, with older or lower-end systems likely experiencing the most noticeable enhancements.
Widgets Experience Update
In the Beta channel for version 25H2, starting with build 26220.8680, the Widgets experience has been refined to reduce distractions. Widgets now open without hover activation, and Taskbar badges are turned off by default. Alerts will also be limited until users interact with the app.
Upon opening the dashboard, Widgets will be displayed under “widgets” instead of in the news feed. Additionally, Taskbar badging will now align with the system accent color, moving away from the previous red indicator to create a more cohesive visual experience.
Adaptive behavior for user engagement is also being developed, allowing the system to tailor the Widgets feature based on user interaction. Highly engaged users will retain the current experience, while less active users will encounter quieter default settings.
Magnifier: Additional Controls
Build 26220.8680 also brings enhancements to the Magnifier feature, improving accessibility for users. It is now possible to input a specific zoom percentage directly within the interface, eliminating the need for repeated clicks on zoom buttons. The Magnifier settings now include additional zoom presets ranging from 5% to 400%.
File Explorer Changes
While the visual design of File Explorer remains unchanged, Microsoft has implemented various improvements aimed at enhancing compatibility, performance, and reliability. For instance, build 26220.8680 allows the address bar to support paths with double backslashes and quotation marks. Performance enhancements have also been made to prevent unresponsiveness during SmartScreen scans when mounting ISO files.
In build 26300.8687, middle-click support has been added, enabling users to open folders in new tabs directly from the address bar and Home page. Further refinements have been made to improve responsiveness at higher text scaling settings.
Windows Update: Single Monthly Restart
Continuing its efforts to streamline the Windows Update process, Microsoft has unified drivers, .NET, and firmware updates with the monthly quality update installation, reducing the number of required restarts to just one per month, starting with build 26300.8687.
Windows Search: Enhanced Typo Handling
With build 26300.8687, the Windows 11 search experience has been upgraded to better handle typos, missing letters, extra characters, and partial app names. This improvement means that even if users make mistakes while typing, they are more likely to receive accurate search results. For example, entering “utlook” will now prioritize the Outlook app as the top result, with local results taking precedence over web results.
These recent Insider builds may not unveil a multitude of groundbreaking features, but they reflect Microsoft’s current priorities. The focus on enhancing usability through updates to Windows Update, search functionality, and ongoing refinements to File Explorer may not generate the same level of excitement as new features, yet they contribute to a more polished and user-friendly operating system.
