I’m exhausted by incessant Windows 11 bugs – and the return of the BitLocker recovery glitch is an ugly sight

Microsoft has recently acknowledged a new issue affecting Windows 10 and Windows 11 users, specifically related to the BitLocker encryption feature. This bug may lead to users finding themselves unexpectedly booting into BitLocker recovery mode, particularly if they are unaware of their encryption key. The problem primarily impacts users of Windows 11 versions 25H2 and 24H2, as well as Windows 10 version 22H2, with Intel-based systems being the most affected.

In a rather unfortunate turn of events, this announcement comes on the heels of a prior fix for a different bug that caused PCs to restart unexpectedly after users selected the ‘update and shutdown’ option. The recurrence of the BitLocker recovery mode issue is reminiscent of similar problems encountered following the May 2025 update, which had previously left users grappling with access to their systems.

For those utilizing Intel devices that support ‘Modern Standby’—a feature designed to keep devices connected while in low-power sleep mode—the situation is particularly concerning. However, users with other hardware configurations are also advised to exercise caution. It may be prudent to ensure that the encryption key is readily available, or even consider disabling BitLocker altogether, given the frequency of issues associated with this security feature.

Fortunately, Microsoft has indicated that this latest bug should not result in data corruption, which offers some reassurance. Nevertheless, the reemergence of the recovery screen issue serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing frustrations that have plagued Windows users in recent years.

Analysis: Microsoft is showing exactly why I can’t stand Windows 11

The growing dissatisfaction with Windows 11, echoed by many users online, may seem exaggerated at times, yet the BitLocker issue exemplifies the persistent challenges that hinder the overall user experience. As someone who relies on Windows 11 for both work and gaming, I frequently encounter various problems that disrupt productivity and enjoyment alike. From excessive background processes that diminish gaming performance to the Bluetooth audio menu freezing, the operating system presents a myriad of obstacles.

This ongoing stream of bugs has led me to consider alternatives, such as SteamOS, which has demonstrated superior gaming performance in numerous scenarios, particularly for handheld devices. While SteamOS is not without its own set of challenges, including online game compatibility issues, its functionality in desktop mode is commendable after a bit of familiarization with file directories.

As Microsoft continues to grapple with these persistent issues, it inadvertently alienates users from Windows 11. Despite the current state of affairs, there remains a glimmer of hope that the company will take the necessary steps to rectify these problems and improve the overall experience for its user base.
