Microsoft has unveiled a new preview version of Windows 11 for members of the Windows Insider Program, rolling out builds 26220.7522 and 26220.7523 simultaneously across both the Dev and Beta channels.
Enhancements and AI Integration
This latest release emphasizes the integration of artificial intelligence features into the operating system, alongside a variety of improvements and bug fixes. A significant focus is on expanding the capabilities of Copilot within Windows 11. Microsoft is exploring innovative ways for Copilot to interact more seamlessly with the operating system, including direct access via the taskbar. This enhancement aims to provide users with quicker access to contextual actions, searches, and system settings, eliminating the need to navigate through a separate interface.
Additionally, Microsoft is testing new agents designed to perform or guide tasks, with their status visible within the Windows environment, further streamlining user experience.
Usability and Accessibility Improvements
Beyond the Copilot advancements, this build also introduces several changes aimed at enhancing usability and accessibility. Notably, the Narrator screen reader has received updates that grant users greater control over the information being read aloud. Improvements have also been made to the touch keyboard and voice typing functionalities, ensuring they operate more consistently and reliably, particularly on touchscreen devices.
A new Discover Windows widget has been introduced in this preview, intended to assist users in uncovering features and capabilities within Windows 11. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to enhance accessibility for both new and existing users, while still catering to the needs of experienced professionals.
Bug Fixes and Known Issues
As is customary with Insider builds, this release includes a range of bug fixes and performance enhancements, addressing issues related to the taskbar, Windows Search, Bluetooth connectivity, and various aspects of File Explorer. However, Microsoft has also issued a caution regarding known issues that persist in this build, such as inconsistent behavior of icons and certain interface elements. The company underscores that these builds are primarily intended for testing and should not be utilized in production environments.
With this build available in both the Dev and Beta channels, Insiders have the temporary flexibility to switch between these channels. Once the development branch progresses with higher build numbers, this switching option will be discontinued. Microsoft continues to maintain a clear distinction between experimental and more stable test versions while offering users the flexibility to navigate as long as the builds remain identical in content.
