Microsoft Notepad, a staple of Windows for decades, has recently undergone a transformation that reflects the evolving landscape of digital tools. Traditionally known for its simplicity in viewing and editing text-based documents, Notepad is now embracing advanced features that aim to enhance user experience. Last year marked the introduction of a spell checker and an AI-powered Rewrite utility, which allows users to modify text length and tone.
New AI Features for Windows Insiders
In a move that continues this trend, Microsoft is rolling out additional AI capabilities to members of the Windows Insider preview program. Among these is a Summarize tool designed to generate concise summaries of selected text. To access this feature, users will need a Microsoft account along with a subscription to either Microsoft 365 or Copilot Pro.
While the potential of AI-generated summaries is intriguing, there remains skepticism regarding their ability to capture the nuances that users might prioritize. However, this latest update also brings a refreshed version of the Windows Snipping tool, which now facilitates the drawing of straight lines during screen capture annotations—a feature that many users will likely find beneficial.
In addition to these developments, the tech world is abuzz with other noteworthy updates. For instance, Android 16 Beta 3 is introducing “platform stability,” ensuring that the stable build will closely resemble this beta version, alongside accessibility enhancements and an updated Quick Settings panel.
Meanwhile, Google is addressing issues with 2015 Chromecast devices that ceased functioning due to an expired certificate. A fix is on the way and should be available over the next few days for devices that remain connected to the internet. However, those who have already performed a factory reset may find themselves without a solution for the time being.
