Microsoft 365 Insiders can try out two new virtual pens in OneNote for Windows

Members of the Microsoft 365 Insider program who utilize the OneNote digital notetaking app for Windows are in for a treat, as they can now explore two innovative digital pen options ahead of their general release.

New Pen Features in OneNote

According to a recent blog post from Microsoft, one of the exciting additions is the Fountain Pen. This tool allows users to craft digital notes with a finesse that includes “thinner lines and detailed lettering.” The versatility of OneNote shines through, as it enables users to adjust the thickness of the digital pen based on varying speeds and pressure points.

The second new offering is the Brush Pen. Microsoft describes this tool as a means to create artistic letters with ease. Its directional nature ensures that the thickness of the strokes adapts automatically, enhancing the creative process.

Insiders can easily access these new pen options by navigating to the Draw tab in OneNote or by selecting the Add Pen button. This update not only introduces new functionalities but also refreshes the overall aesthetic of the app. Microsoft has revamped all pen icons within OneNote, promising users “a new refreshed and coherent look across your favorite productivity apps.”

To take advantage of these enhancements, members of the Insider program will need to ensure their OneNote app is updated to Windows Version 2408 (Build 18011.20000) or later. While the timeline for a broader rollout remains unclear, the anticipation is palpable among users eager to elevate their note-taking experience.

In recent months, Insiders have also had the opportunity to engage with a new interactive ink tutorial within the OneNote app. Additionally, they have been able to utilize a feature that allows the Copilot AI assistant to analyze handwritten notes, further enriching the functionality of OneNote.
