Microsoft is broadening the reach of its innovative AI capabilities, now enabling all Copilot Plus PCs powered by Intel and AMD processors to generate Live Captions. This feature translates audio into English subtitles in real time, accommodating a multitude of languages.
The journey for Live Captions began last December when Microsoft initiated testing on devices equipped with Intel and AMD chips. Following this initial phase, the feature has been incorporated into the latest Windows 11 update, marking a significant step forward in accessibility and user experience.
Alongside Live Captions, the update introduces Cocreator, an AI-driven tool within Paint that generates images based on user-provided text descriptions and ongoing drawings. Furthermore, Microsoft is expanding its AI image editor and generator capabilities within the Photos app, enhancing creative possibilities for users.
Previously, these advanced features were exclusive to Copilot Plus PCs utilizing Qualcomm chips. Microsoft also began testing Recall, an AI feature designed to capture screenshots of user activity on Copilot Plus PCs, allowing for easy searching through past actions. However, a timeline for its widespread availability remains unannounced.
In addition to these enhancements, Microsoft is refreshing Voice Access, an accessibility feature that empowers users to control their PCs through voice commands. Users of Qualcomm-powered Copilot Plus PCs will benefit from improved communication capabilities, utilizing more descriptive and flexible language. Plans are in place to extend these updates to Intel and AMD devices in the near future, including the ability to translate 27 languages into Simplified Chinese.
