Microsoft Starts Testing New Settings AI Agent and Recall Export Experience

Microsoft has embarked on an exciting journey of innovation, introducing a new AI agent designed to enhance user experience within the Settings of Windows 11. This development is currently being tested by Windows Insiders on Copilot+ PCs, specifically with the Dev build 26200.5651. Alongside this AI agent, users in the European Economic Area (EEA) will also benefit from a revamped Recall export experience, which is accessible in the Beta channel build 26120.4441.

The latest builds not only bring forth the AI agent but also allow users to reset Recall and erase all associated data, providing a fresh start for those who wish to manage their digital footprints. Additionally, new Click to Do actions have been introduced, enabling users to seamlessly invoke Microsoft 365 Copilot or schedule meetings through Microsoft Teams.

Among the key features rolling out to Insiders today are:

  • New Settings AI agent on Copilot+ PCs (Dev Channel only): This intelligent assistant will empower users to modify PC settings simply by articulating their requests in natural language. Initially, this feature is available for Qualcomm-powered Copilot+ PCs with English as the primary display language.
  • New Recall export experience for Insiders in the EEA: Users in the EEA can now utilize a unique Recall export code to share their encrypted Recall snapshots with third-party applications and websites. This code is essential for decrypting the exported data.
  • Reset Recall: A new option under Settings > Privacy & Security > Recall & Snapshots allows users to reset Recall and delete all its data. Notably, the default maximum storage duration for Recall snapshots has been adjusted from unlimited to 90 days.
  • New Click to Do Actions: The Ask Microsoft 365 Copilot action enables Insiders with the appropriate license to send text or images directly to the AI assistant. Furthermore, using Click to Do on email addresses will prompt options for messaging or scheduling meetings via Teams.
  • Bigger clock with seconds in the taskbar: Responding to user feedback, Microsoft is reintroducing the option to display a larger clock with seconds in the notification center, a feature that was highly requested during the Windows 10 era. This can be found under Settings > Time & language > Date & time.
  • Windows Share improvements for OneDrive files: Insiders logged in with their Microsoft account can now share OneDrive cloud file links through other applications via the Windows share window, although this feature is currently unavailable in the EEA.
  • Voice Access improvements: Users can now navigate, dictate, and interact with Windows using voice commands in Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, and Japanese.

Currently, Insiders on both the Dev and Beta channels are receiving updates based on Windows 11 version 24H2. Anticipation is building for version 25H2, expected to launch later this year, though Microsoft has yet to provide further details. Meanwhile, new Windows 11 Canary builds remain unlinked to any specific release, with the Canary Channel trailing behind other Insider Channels in terms of feature updates.
