Microsoft updates Snipping Tool with the ability to copy data tables

Microsoft has recently unveiled a significant update for its Snipping Tool app, now available to Windows Insiders in both the Dev and Beta Channels. This update accompanies the release of two new Windows 11 preview builds and a preview build for Windows Server 2025, marking a noteworthy moment for users eager to explore the latest features.

New Feature: Copy as Table

The latest version of the Snipping Tool, 11.2409.22.0, introduces a single yet impactful feature: the ability to copy data tables. This enhancement allows users to take a screenshot of a table, click on the “Text Actions” button, and select “Copy as Table.” The app then organizes the captured data in a structured format, making it easy to paste into applications such as Excel or similar table-processing software.

In an official announcement, Microsoft elaborated on this new functionality:

We are rolling out an update for Snipping Tool (version 11.2409.22.0 and newer) to Windows Insiders in the Canary and Dev Channels that introduces a new “Copy as table” feature. Customers can do even more with Snipping Tool! Alongside existing text features, like copying text from an image and redacting sensitive information, we’re adding a new option for “Copy as table.” Customers can use “Copy as table” to easily copy structured table data into an email, document, or spreadsheet. To get started, capture a screenshot with table data, select “Text actions,” and select “Copy as table.” You can paste the structured table data from there! Please note: the current implementation of the feature works best when your screenshot only includes one table.

While users can technically download the latest Snipping Tool update and install it on stable Windows 11 builds through third-party tools, the new table copying feature may not be accessible in those instances. Therefore, the optimal approach for users wishing to experience this feature is to utilize a device enrolled in the Windows Insider Program, whether in the Dev Channel or the Canary Channel.
