Microsoft is reportedly in the throes of developing a new iteration of its popular Surface Pro line, tentatively dubbed the Surface Pro 12 or perhaps the Surface Pro 2025 Lunar Lake refresh. The ambiguity surrounding the naming convention is palpable, especially as the tech giant appears to be moving away from numerical identifiers in its Surface branding. Nevertheless, with the introduction of Intel’s Lunar Lake processors, there remains a possibility that Microsoft may revert to a more traditional number-based nomenclature.
The anticipated Surface Pro refresh promises to deliver a robust update, particularly with the integration of Intel’s latest Lunar Lake processors. In one of the listings, it has been referred to as the “Surface Pro 12 for Business,” suggesting a strong focus on commercial clientele, although the definitive name for the Intel Lunar Lake variant remains elusive.
Insights from a now-deleted Reddit post, initially uncovered by Windows Latest, indicate that a source with close ties to Microsoft—a partner, reseller, or retailer—has confirmed the development of a Surface Pro 2025 model featuring Intel Lunar Lake technology. This post, dating back about a month, comes from a source known for their reliability.
According to various references, the Surface Pro 2025 is being tested with a 120Hz OLED display, a haptic touchpad, and Wi-Fi 7 capabilities, all powered by the Intel Lunar Lake processor. Additional reports from a Chinese forum suggest that the Surface Pro “830_QUN,” or Surface Pro 12 for Business, may be available in several configurations, including Core Ultra 5 226V, Core Ultra 7 266V, and Core Ultra 7 268V processors.
Users will have the option to choose between 16GB and 32GB RAM configurations, notably excluding the 8GB variant. This omission aligns with the growing standard, as 16GB is now deemed the minimum requirement for Windows 11’s AI functionalities, including features like Recall.

In addition to the Surface Pro 12, Microsoft is also preparing a refresh for the Surface Laptop, featuring the Intel Lunar Lake processors. As noted by Zac Bowden, the Surface Laptop 8 has recently surfaced on the Chinese marketplace Goofish.
Expected to be priced around ,600, the Surface Laptop 8 will maintain a design akin to its predecessor, the Surface Laptop 7, with the primary distinction being the upgraded processor, which appears to be the Ultra 7 268V based on leaked information. Images of the prototype reveal it running Windows 11 24H2, although there are no indications of AI features like Recall, suggesting it may be an older build.
This upcoming model is part of the high-end offerings within the Lunar Lake lineup, equipped with the Arc 140V GPU and up to 32GB of LPDDR5X memory. Microsoft and Intel are gearing up for a rollout of these Surface upgrades in early 2024.
