Windows 11 is getting a redesigned Copilot app

Microsoft is embarking on an exciting transformation of its AI-powered Copilot app for Windows 11, moving away from a web-based framework to a fully native experience. Currently in preview for Windows Insiders, the revamped Copilot app showcases a modern user interface that harmonizes beautifully with the design language of Windows 11. This update introduces enhanced visuals, including mica blur effects, integrated context menus, and a streamlined sidebar designed to facilitate the management of chat sessions.

Enhanced Usability and Aesthetics

While the core functionalities of the app remain intact—allowing users to engage in text chats, utilize Copilot Voice, and revisit previous conversations—the redesign significantly elevates both aesthetics and usability. According to Windows Central, the new Copilot is built on Microsoft’s native UI framework, resulting in faster startup times and smoother interactions. This shift promises a more seamless and visually consistent experience for users.

The introduction of a dedicated “new chat” button and an updated sidebar not only streamlines navigation but also encourages users to engage more frequently with Copilot’s AI capabilities. Additionally, familiar settings such as launching Copilot at startup and activating it with the Alt+Spacebar shortcut have been retained, ensuring a sense of continuity for existing users.

This transition to a native experience follows the recent surprise launch of a native Copilot app for macOS, a move that caught many off guard given Microsoft’s historical emphasis on the Windows ecosystem. It appears that Microsoft is adopting a new strategy aimed at delivering a consistent Copilot experience across various operating systems.

The preview version (1.25023.106.0) is currently accessible through the Microsoft Store, inviting Windows Insiders to explore the redesigned app and share their feedback. While a public release is anticipated, specific details regarding the launch date have yet to be disclosed.
