The drag tray to make sharing easier
Among the most notable enhancements is the introduction of a drag tray designed to simplify file sharing. When users drag a file to the top of the screen, a hidden tray emerges, showcasing a selection of frequently used applications. This allows for a seamless transfer of files into apps such as Outlook or WhatsApp with just a simple drag-and-drop motion. For those seeking to share files with less commonly used applications, a “More” button opens the Windows share menu, providing additional options. An improved Windows Search
In addition to the drag tray, Microsoft is enhancing the Windows Search functionality for Copilot+ PCs. This updated search feature enables users to locate photos stored in the cloud by typing descriptive terms, even if the files are named generically, such as IMG0012.JPG. Currently, this capability is available for personal OneDrive accounts, provided users are signed in and connected to the internet. Microsoft has indicated that support for third-party cloud storage providers will follow, expanding the utility of this feature for users who do not utilize OneDrive.
How to try these new Windows features
To access these new features, users must enroll in the Windows Insider program and ensure their hardware is compatible with the appropriate beta version. The process begins by visiting the Microsoft website to register for the Windows Insider program. Once registered, users should navigate to Settings > Windows Update > Windows Insider Program on their PC and follow the prompts to join.

While currently labeled as an optional update, Microsoft plans to promote it to a recommended status later this year. This update also includes improvements to Windows Recall and introduces a new Trim tool for editing screen recordings using the Snipping Tool in Windows 11.
