Court Order Delays Microsoft’s Plans to Allow Xbox Games to Be Purchased Directly in the Xbox App on Android

Delay in Microsoft’s Plan to Allow Xbox Games on Android

Last month, Microsoft made an exciting announcement that they would be allowing people to buy and play Xbox games directly from the Xbox App on Android starting in November. However, as we near the end of the month, it seems that these plans will have to be put on hold for now.

Xbox President Sarah Bond took to Twitter to share that a temporary administrative stay granted by the courts has delayed the functionality. Despite this setback, Bond reassured fans that they are prepared to launch the feature as soon as they receive the necessary legal approval.

“At Xbox, we want to offer players more choice on how and where they play, including being able to play and buy games directly from the Xbox app,” Bond expressed. “Due to a temporary administrative stay recently granted by the courts, we are currently unable to launch these features as planned. Our team has the functionality built and ready to go live as soon as the court makes a final decision. We are eager to launch and give more choice and flexibility to players.”

Microsoft’s plans were in response to a recent ruling that forces Google to open up its Play Store to competitors for three years. This decision allowed Microsoft the opportunity to sell Xbox games on Android devices without having to use Google Play Billing. However, the implications of this court order on Microsoft’s future plans remain uncertain.

Despite this delay, Microsoft has been making strategic moves to expand Xbox’s presence in the mobile gaming space. With the recent acquisition of Activision Blizzard, the company is well-positioned to make a significant impact in the mobile landscape.

As we await further developments, it’s clear that Microsoft remains committed to providing players with more options and flexibility in how they enjoy their favorite games.
