Apple TV app launches for Android with TV+, MLS, and no iTunes content

Five years after the debut of Apple TV+, the tech giant is expanding its horizons by introducing the complete Apple TV app experience to Android users. As of today, individuals using smartphones, foldables, and tablets running Android version 10 or newer can access a wealth of content, including all Apple TV+ offerings, as well as live MLB and MLS games.

Familiarity Meets Innovation

In a move that embraces Google’s Material design, Apple ensures that Android users enjoy a seamless and familiar interface. This design philosophy mirrors the approach taken with Apple Music on the Android platform, creating a cohesive experience across services. The Apple TV app is organized into four primary categories: Apple TV+, MLS, Downloads, and Search.

Within the Apple TV+ section, users will discover personalized recommendations tailored to their viewing habits, alongside curated suggestions from Apple. This feature is particularly beneficial for newcomers to the platform, as the company anticipates a surge of fresh users eager to explore the content available to them.

  • Apple TV+: Personalized content and recommendations.
  • MLS: Access to Major League Soccer streams, including match schedules and shows.
  • Downloads: A dedicated space for all downloaded Apple TV+ content.
  • Search: A straightforward tool for finding specific shows, documentaries, games, or movies.

While the Apple TV app on Android offers a robust selection of features, it does come with certain limitations. Notably, there is no deeper integration with other streaming services, meaning users will not find their iTunes-purchased content or a “Continue Watching” carousel that includes shows from platforms like Disney+, Max, or Prime Video.

With the introduction of the Apple TV app on Android, users now have the option to subscribe to Apple TV+ or MLS directly through the app, utilizing the Google Play billing system for added convenience.
