Oxide Games and Stardock have embarked on an ambitious journey with the announcement of Ashes of the Singularity 2, aiming for a PC release in 2026. This sequel promises to expand upon the foundations laid by its predecessor, which debuted in 2016 and was inspired by the grand scale of the Supreme Commander series. Following the initial release, Oxide Games introduced a standalone expansion, before turning their creative energies towards the 4X turn-based strategy game, Ara: History Untold, which launched in 2024.
Expanding the Universe
In a significant shift from the original narrative, Ashes of the Singularity 2 will incorporate human factions into its storyline, previously dominated by powerful artificial intelligences locked in conflict. The United Earth Forces, now striving to reclaim Earth, will face formidable adversaries in the form of AI and Post-Humans. This evolution not only adds depth to the narrative but also enriches the gameplay experience.
Players can look forward to a robust single-player campaign, alongside cooperative and multiplayer modes, all featuring new units and innovative gameplay mechanics. Stardock CEO Brad Wardell expressed enthusiasm for the project, stating, “Ten years ago, we set a new, literal benchmark for RTS games with massive battles and groundbreaking technology. With Ashes of the Singularity II, we’re raising the bar even higher, delivering strategic gameplay depth that RTS fans have always dreamed of.”
Wardell further elaborated on the community’s feedback from the first game, noting, “Obviously, in the first game, the number one request was to have a human faction. Back then, we just couldn’t support having thousands of organic, walking, squishy people in the world and thus had to design in favor of machines. We’re really excited to bring the humans into the war and watch how they fare against the massive mechanical armies of the Substrate and PHC.”
