Single-world sandbox MMORPG that gives me serious Minecraft vibes makes dungeons harder, but more rewarding

Bitcraft Online Expands with New Dungeon Update

Imagine the essence of a small Minecraft server, infused with the expansive allure of top-tier MMORPGs. This is the vision behind Bitcraft Online, a game that seamlessly merges player-driven creativity and worldbuilding reminiscent of Mojang’s sandbox with the grandeur of titles like World of Warcraft and the extensive profession grinding found in Old School RuneScape. Since its early access launch in June, developer Clockwork Laboratories has been diligently refining this concept, recently unveiling patch notes that enhance the design of its inaugural dungeon while introducing significant combat adjustments.

In a departure from the typical instanced dungeons prevalent in many MMOs, Bitcraft Online’s first dungeon offers a unique experience. Clockwork Labs describes it as “closer to an open-world boss or open-world dungeon in terms of the design it requires,” allowing for a dynamic multiplayer environment where players can join the fray without diminishing the gameplay or rewards. This innovative approach ensures that the presence of additional players enriches the experience rather than detracts from it.

After a thorough testing period, the development team has identified two primary enhancements now being integrated into the game, alongside several smaller tweaks. The first notable change is enemy scaling, which adjusts the strength of monsters in real-time as more players engage in the encounter. This mechanism aims to maintain challenge without adversely affecting experience gains or reward contributions, both of which are calculated based on the damage dealt.

On the loot front, a significant modification has been made to how contributions are assessed. Previously, players’ rewards were weighted against their companions, a system that could lead to inequitable loot distribution. With the new update, individual contributions will be recognized independently, ensuring that players receive meaningful rewards based on their performance against the boss, regardless of their teammates’ actions. As players achieve specific contribution milestones, their loot payouts will increase, fostering a sense of accomplishment.

In addition to these core changes, Clockwork Labs has implemented various adjustments that impact combat throughout the game. Players must now clear each room of the dungeon sequentially, preventing a rush-through mentality. Furthermore, passive health regeneration for players, enemies, and bosses has been disabled during combat, although creatures will gradually heal if combat ceases. Updates to weapon tooltips and the introduction of tier 7-10 food items further enhance the gameplay experience.

Clockwork Labs expressed optimism about these updates, stating, “We hope that these changes bring the dungeon to a much better place.” The team is committed to ongoing content balancing, focusing on difficulty and rewards, while also planning to introduce new dungeons and bosses in the near future. Upcoming enhancements will include improvements to hunting, sailing, and hauling mechanics.
