Announcing new builds for 31 July 2026

New Windows Insider Preview Builds have been released for both the Beta and Experimental channels, featuring renewed Windows Insider flight certificates valid until August 11, 2026. The Experimental channel has already incorporated these renewed certificates. Notable new features include: 1. Adaptive Hibernate Policy: Enhancements to improve instant-on resumes from Modern Standby and battery preservation, with less frequent hibernation above 80% battery and earlier hibernation below 10%. 2. Alternate Taskbar Position: Users can change the taskbar's position to bottom, top, left, or right through Settings. Tooltips, flyouts, and animations will function in alternate positions, but some features are still in development. 3. Smaller Taskbar: A new, smaller taskbar option is available for maximizing screen space, particularly on smaller devices, allowing for smaller icons and reduced height. Users can adjust this setting in Taskbar behaviors.

Windows 11’s August Patch Tuesday update brings several important changes, and I break down the biggest ones

Microsoft will release the Windows 11 August 2026 Security Update on August 11, 2026, featuring new functionalities and enhancements. Key additions include Windows Hello Enhanced Sign-in Security, the ability to uninstall AI models from Copilot+ PCs, new touchpad gestures, voice isolation for Voice Access, Fluid Dictation for Voice Typing, and a redesigned Start menu with parental controls notice. File Explorer improvements include displaying file sizes in appropriate units, middle-clicking to open folders in new tabs, and fixes for bugs. Minecraft 26.3 Snapshot 3 patch notes: Straw Bed, Cushion, and more revealed

Mojang has released Minecraft 26.3 Snapshot 3, introducing new features focused on player comfort, including the Cushion and the Straw Bed. The Cushion is a placeable item available in 16 colors, crafted from three wool slabs of the same hue. The Straw Bed allows players to sleep through the night without setting a spawn point and is single-use, being destroyed after use. It cannot be used in the Nether or The End and is crafted from three hay bales, yielding four beds. A new statistic tracks the number of times players have slept in a Straw Bed. Additional features include Gothic language support, a new command (/posteffect) for adding or removing post-processing shader effects, data-driven custom brewing recipes, and a new minecraft:number_provider registry for flexible data-driven systems. Bug fixes in this snapshot address various gameplay issues, including problems with Drowned entities, rendering issues on macOS, and inconsistencies in GUI elements.

Microsoft releases Windows 10 KB5094127 extended security update

Microsoft has released the Windows 10 KB5094127 extended security update, which addresses vulnerabilities identified during the June 2026 Patch Tuesday and enhances monitoring of updated Secure Boot certificates. Users on Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC or enrolled in the ESU program can install it via the Windows Update settings. The update upgrades Windows 10 to build 19045.7417 and Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC 2021 to build 19044.7417. It focuses on security enhancements and bug fixes, resolving a total of 200 vulnerabilities, including three zero-day flaws.
