New releases have arrived today, showcasing builds across both the Beta and Experimental channels. Among these updates are refreshed security certificates designed to enhance the overall security of Insider devices.
Renewed Windows Insider Flight Certificates
This week’s builds feature renewed Windows Insider flight certificates. It’s worth noting that the Experimental (Future Platforms) channel has already incorporated these renewed certificates since an earlier build released this week. The flight certificates are periodically renewed to ensure that Insider devices remain on supported builds and continue to receive future Insider Preview updates. The current flight certificate is valid until August 11, 2026, so it is advisable to update your device to a build with the renewed certificate before that expiration date. Notable New Features:
[Adaptive Hibernate Policy]
Release Channel: Experimental
Updates to the adaptive hibernate policy aim to enhance the experience by increasing the instances of instant-on resumes from Modern Standby while also improving battery preservation at lower battery levels. Users will notice less frequent hibernation when the battery is above 80%, while the system will hibernate sooner when the battery dips below 10%.
[Taskbar]
Release Channel: Experimental, New to Beta
- Alternate Taskbar Position: Users now have the option to change the position of the taskbar on their screens. Navigate to Settings > Personalization > Taskbar > Taskbar Behaviors to select the desired location: bottom, top, left, or right. In these alternate positions, tooltips, flyouts, and animations will continue to function from the taskbar, and most customization settings, such as never combine taskbar icons, will remain applicable.
- Support for touch gestures, the Search box, and Ask Copilot in alternate locations is currently in development. Please note that the auto-hidden taskbar and touch-optimized taskbar are not yet supported, and the smaller taskbar feature is only available for the top and bottom positions.
Smaller Taskbar
- A new, smaller taskbar is being introduced for users who wish to maximize screen space, particularly on smaller devices. While the default taskbar remains unchanged, this setting offers a more compact experience with smaller icons and reduced taskbar height, allowing for more room for applications. Core elements such as Start, Search, and the system tray will scale appropriately to maintain alignment and consistency.
- To adjust the taskbar size, go to Settings > Personalization > Taskbar > Taskbar behaviors > Taskbar size. When set to Small, both the icons and the taskbar height will be minimized.
