Google Launches AI-Powered Gaming Assistant
Google has introduced a new AI-powered assistant designed to provide live coaching for Android mobile gamers. This feature, which will be integrated into select games in the coming months, allows players to seek tips from the AI while it observes the game and offers real-time suggestions, all without having to exit the app.
The assistant, powered by Google’s Gemini AI models from DeepMind, marks a departure from AI assistants primarily found in productivity tools to those focused on entertainment. Google describes this assistant, which can be interacted with through voice or text, as more than just a virtual guide. It has the ability to understand in-game actions and provide context-aware advice, potentially eliminating the need to switch between apps for tutorials or walkthroughs.
This new feature bears resemblance to Microsoft’s Gaming Copilot, which also offers AI coaching for mobile and PC games. In addition to the AI assistant, Google is introducing a centralised “gamer profile” on the Play Store. Users will be able to monitor their achievements, game progress, and community activity all in one place, mirroring features that have long been available on platforms like Xbox and Steam.
These developments come as Google’s Play Store ecosystem continues to grow. Revenue from subscriptions, devices, and Play Store purchases saw a 20% increase to A billion in Q2, underscoring the importance of keeping users engaged with apps and games. Other updates include enhanced game pages featuring news, developer updates, and tips from fellow players, as well as the expanded availability of Google Play Games for PC, which now offers over 200,000 Android titles for desktop play.
