The Lloyds app has recently introduced a feature that has resonated well with its customer base, showcasing the bank’s commitment to enhancing user experience amidst a backdrop of branch closures. Over the past year, Lloyds has seen a notable rise in its stock price, yet it has also announced plans to shutter additional branches across the UK in the upcoming months.
The high street lender has confirmed that these closures will take place between January and October of next year. However, in a move aimed at supporting its workforce, Lloyds has assured that all employees affected by the closures will be offered positions at other branches or within different sectors of the business.
Credit where it’s due for brilliant service from @LloydsBank. Discovered that my debit card was compromised in July & used to pay for Netflix. After speaking to both companies, messaged Lloyds Fraud via their app, spoke to a human & money refunded in 20 mins. @MartinSLewis

Lloyd’s new app goes down a storm with customers
Amidst these changes, there is a silver lining thanks to the introduction of a new feature that has quickly gained popularity among users. Launched in August, the barcode cash paying-in feature has already facilitated over £3 million in deposits at PayPoint locations across the high street.
To utilize this feature, customers can navigate to the ‘Everyday’ section of the Lloyds app, where they can generate a barcode. This barcode allows them to deposit up to £300 in notes and coins daily at more than 3,000 PayPoint locations. Additionally, Lloyds has expanded its services to include the option for customers to use their debit cards for depositing cash.
With 99.5% of the population residing within a mile of a PayPoint store, this new feature is strategically designed to provide customers with convenient alternatives as the number of physical branches continues to decline.
Looking ahead, Lloyds has announced plans to close 292 branches in 2025, following an earlier decision to shut down 61 Lloyds, 61 Halifax, and 14 Bank of Scotland branches between May and March of the following year.
Gabby Collins, the payments director at Lloyds, expressed enthusiasm about the new feature, stating, “Whether it’s through our app or with a card, customers can pay in notes and coins at thousands of local PayPoint locations. We’re making it easy for people to manage their money, whenever and wherever it works for them.”
