Velasco expressed his excitement about the project, stating that it “awakened the GBA kid” in him when he first played it earlier this year. He also noted the game’s subtle nods to Bloodborne, particularly in its health management system and deliberate pacing. This blend of old and new is reminiscent of Yacht Club’s previous success with Shovel Knight, which managed to pay homage to retro gaming while introducing innovative concepts.

In his discussion, Velasco described the ongoing exchange of gameplay ideas among developers as a “great conversation.” He highlighted how game mechanics are increasingly converging, a phenomenon that has led to the emergence of titles like Mina the Hollower. This game stands as a testament to the creative dialogue between the influences of NES classics and modern Soulslike elements.
