Announcing Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 28000 (Canary Channel)

Hello Windows Insiders, today marks the release of Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 28000 to the Canary Channel, bringing with it a series of updates aimed at enhancing user experience.

What’s new in Build 28000

[General]

  • This update introduces a modest collection of general improvements and fixes designed to elevate the overall experience for Insiders utilizing this build on their PCs.

[Versioning]

  • With this latest build, Windows Insiders in the Canary Channel will notice an updated versioning under Settings > System > About (and winver) reflecting Windows 11, version 26H1.
  • It is important to note that 26H1 is not a feature update for version 25H2; it solely comprises platform changes intended to support specific silicon. No action is required from customers regarding this update.
  • Version 25H2 continues to serve as the primary source for new features. Windows 11 maintains an annual feature update schedule, typically releasing in the latter half of the calendar year.
  • As a reminder, within the Windows Insider Program, new experiences will initially debut in the Dev and Beta Channels, while the Canary Channel will primarily focus on platform changes.

Fixes

[General]

  • Resolved an issue that caused live captions to crash in the previous flight for some Insiders.
  • Addressed a problem that made the credentials window inaccessible when attempting to log in to Outlook in recent flights.

Known issues

[Start menu]

  • Insiders utilizing the new Start menu may encounter unexpected scrolling to the top.

[Power and Battery]

  • We are currently investigating reports indicating that sleep and shutdown functionalities are not operating correctly for some Insiders following the latest Canary builds.

Reminders for Windows Insiders in the Canary Channel

  • The builds released to the Canary Channel represent the latest platform changes early in the development cycle and should not be interpreted as corresponding to any specific release of Windows. Features and experiences included in these builds may never be released as we explore various concepts and gather feedback. Changes, removals, or replacements of features may occur, and some may eventually appear in future Windows releases when they are ready.
  • Many features within the Canary Channel are deployed using Control Feature Rollout technology, beginning with a select group of Insiders and gradually expanding as we monitor feedback to assess their performance before wider distribution.
  • Some features may first appear in the Dev and Beta Channels prior to being introduced in the Canary Channel.
  • Features currently in active development that we preview with Windows Insiders may not be fully localized; localization will occur over time as features are finalized. If you encounter localization issues in your language, please report them via the Feedback Hub.
  • To exit the Canary Channel, a clean installation of Windows 11 will be necessary. Insiders cannot switch to a channel receiving builds with lower build numbers without performing a clean installation due to technical setup requirements.
  • For a comprehensive overview of which build is in which Insider channel, please visit Flight Hub.
