Microsoft: Windows 11 23H2 Home and Pro reach end of support

Microsoft has issued a reminder to its customers regarding the cessation of security updates for systems operating on the Home and Pro editions of Windows 11 23H2. This announcement comes after a series of notifications urging users to upgrade their devices to the latest Windows 11 release, with alerts sent out in August, September, and October.

Current Support Status

According to the company’s Windows release health dashboard, the Enterprise, Education, and IoT Enterprise editions of Windows 11 23H2 remain under mainstream support until November 2026. In a message center update, Microsoft stated, “Today, November 11, 2025, Windows 11, version 23H2 (Home and Pro editions) has reached end of servicing. The November 2025 monthly security update is the last update available for these editions.”

This means that devices running these editions will no longer receive monthly security and preview updates, which are essential for protecting against the latest security threats.

Upgrade Recommendations

Users are encouraged to transition to Windows 11 25H2, also referred to as the Windows 11 2025 Update. This version became generally available in September 2025 as an enablement package (eKB) and is set to receive consumer support until October 2027.

Windows 11 25H2 is accessible to all eligible Windows 11 devices for customers who have activated the “Get the latest updates as soon as they’re available” setting. To check for the update on an eligible Windows 10 or Windows 11 device, users can navigate to Settings > Windows Update and select “Check for updates.” If the device is ready for the update, an option to “Download and install Windows 11, version 25H2” will appear.

For devices running Windows 11 Home and Pro editions that are not managed by an IT department, the Windows 11 25H2 update will be applied automatically. However, users retain the option to postpone the update or select a convenient time to restart their devices.

For further details regarding Windows 11 servicing dates, users can refer to the Windows Lifecycle FAQ page or utilize the Lifecycle Policy search tool. Microsoft also provides a comprehensive list of products that will be retired or reach the end of support this year.
