Rumour – Sony ‘Backing Away’ From Releasing Console Exclusive Single-Player Games On…
February 27, 2026
Sony Interactive Entertainment appears to be recalibrating its approach to game releases on PC, as reported by Jason Schreier of Bloomberg. The company has made a notable shift over the past few years, introducing a variety of its flagship titles to the PC platform. Games such as Marvel’s Spider-Man, God of War, and Ghost of Tsushima have all found new audiences beyond the PlayStation ecosystem. However, it seems that the focus may now be narrowing.
Shifting Strategies
During a recent episode of the Triple Click podcast, Schreier suggested that Sony is likely to concentrate its PC release strategy on live-service games moving forward. He pointed to the upcoming Marvel’s Wolverine as a case in point, highlighting that it is set to launch exclusively on the PS5, with no current plans for a PC version.
“I think for them, their strategy is like, live service games are coming to PC. But I think the sense I’m getting is that they’re backing away from putting their exclusive console stuff like traditional single-player stuff on PC,” said Schreier. “Even if they don’t, we are seeing Wolverine is coming on September 15th, and that’s not coming to PC. It’s coming to PlayStation 5 only. I wouldn’t be surprised if it never came to PC, but even if it does you have a strong idea of what that is and that you need a PlayStation to play it at least for the indefinite future.”
This insight aligns with previous reports, including comments from Jez Cordon on the Xbox Two podcast last November, indicating that Sony was contemplating a reduction in its PC support for major titles.
Interestingly, a recent report revealed that Sony has successfully generated .3 billion from sales of first-party games on various platforms, including PC. This figure encompasses not only the single-player titles previously mentioned but also live-service games like Helldivers 2 and MLB The Show, which have made their way to Xbox Series X/S as well.
