Riven Tides Update Faces Cheating Challenges
The recent update for Arc Raiders, titled Riven Tides, marks a significant milestone for the game, introducing an exciting new map and a formidable Arc threat known as the Turbine. Alongside these additions, a variety of tweaks and enhancements have been implemented to elevate the overall gaming experience. However, the update has not addressed one of the most pressing concerns: rampant cheating within the game, which has led to notable figures like Tyler ‘Ninja’ Blevins stepping away shortly after the patch’s release.
Since its launch in October 2025, Arc Raiders garnered enthusiastic reviews but has experienced a steady decline in player engagement. The Riven Tides update was anticipated as a potential catalyst to rekindle interest among former players. Yet, as evidenced by Ninja’s abrupt departure, the initial reception has been less than favorable.
After dedicating three hours to gameplay on April 29, Ninja opted to exit the game, informing his teammates of his decision. In a candid moment on his Twitch stream, he expressed his frustrations: “I apologize, guys. That’ll do it. I’m not just going to die to cheaters and stream snipers again. Nothing’s changed. Cool update though. If you guys aren’t streamers, it should be a blast, but this game’s unplayable.”
Unfortunately, Ninja’s experience is not an isolated incident. Cheating has escalated into a widespread issue affecting a broad spectrum of players, not just streamers. From aimbots to hacks that allow players to see through walls, the integrity of gameplay has been compromised. It is now commonplace to encounter lobbies where a single adversary can eliminate an entire team with ease.
Embark Studios, the developer behind Arc Raiders, has acknowledged these challenges. Back in February, they communicated their commitment to addressing the cheating problem, emphasizing a careful and measured approach to implementing solutions. While they have rolled out new anti-cheat measures for another title, The Finals, Arc Raiders continues to struggle under the burden of cheaters.
The community’s patience appears to be waning. A quick search on social media reveals a torrent of complaints regarding hackers disrupting gameplay, with many players pleading for Embark to take decisive action. Some have even chosen to abandon the game altogether, contributing to a significant decline in player numbers. In April 2026, the average player count plummeted to 76,000, a stark contrast to the 241,000 players recorded in January.
For Embark Studios, the introduction of new content is crucial, yet the persistent issues surrounding cheating pose a serious threat to the game’s future. Without effective measures to restore fair play, there is a growing concern that the player base may dwindle to a point of no return, leaving those who have departed unlikely to return.
