Microsoft is usually blamed for every PC bug, but Dell and HP’s latest Windows 11 BSOD reboot fiascos are all on them.

Last month, a wave of reports surfaced from Dell users experiencing significant issues with Dell SupportAssist, the company’s device recovery software. Instead of providing the intended support, the software was implicated in causing system crashes, resulting in blue screens and persistent reboot loops on Windows 11. In response to these concerns, Dell clarified that the problems were not attributable to Microsoft’s operating system.

Initially, Dell advised users to uninstall the software to alleviate the disruptions. However, Mauro Huculak, a Windows OS expert, suggested an alternative approach: disabling the service could also help mitigate the issue without the need for complete uninstallation.

New Developments from Dell

In a recent blog post, Dell has acknowledged that its Remediation Dell SupportAssist (version 5.5.16.0) and Alienware SupportAssist are indeed capable of triggering blue screen errors and unexpected reboot loops on Windows 11. This revelation adds to the growing list of concerns regarding software reliability in the current tech landscape.

In a related note, HP has faced its own challenges with a BIOS bug that left high-end Windows 11 PCs ensnared in an endless BitLocker recovery loop. During this period, HP advised users to avoid downloading and installing the faulty BIOS update by disabling automatic updates in their device settings while they worked diligently on a permanent solution.
