GTA 6 PC release date leaks, and it’s much sooner than we thought

Anticipation continues to build around the upcoming release of GTA 6, which is officially set to launch on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on November 19, 2026. As the gaming community eagerly awaits this monumental event, many developers and publishers are strategically maneuvering their release schedules to avoid the overshadowing presence of Rockstar’s latest installment.

Potential PC Release Timeline

While the console release date is firmly established, the timeline for a potential PC version remains shrouded in uncertainty. Recent insights from a source known as DetectiveSeeds on X suggest that a PC port could arrive sooner than previously anticipated. According to claims made by three individuals who allege to have ties with Rockstar, the PC version of GTA 6 might be available as early as February 2027, a mere three months after its console debut.

DetectiveSeeds shared that these sources indicated Rockstar aims to release the PC version before the end of the fiscal year. “According to 3 former Rockstar employees (that I contacted through LinkedIn), Grand Theft Auto 6 is aiming to release the PC version in February 2027. All stated this timeline could shift, but Take-Two and Rockstar wanted to get the game out before the end of fiscal year. I reached out to over 90 people; 3 answered me,” the post detailed.

While these claims have yet to be officially verified, they do spark hope among PC gamers that the wait for Rockstar’s latest offering may not be as prolonged as in previous instances. Historically, the gap between console and PC releases has been significant; for example, GTA 5 took nearly two years to transition to PC, while Red Dead Redemption 2 saw a slightly reduced wait of around one year. The lengthy 14-year delay for the original Red Dead Redemption to make its PC debut is also a notable point of reference.

Rockstar’s Release Strategy

Take-Two’s CEO, Strauss Zelnick, has previously articulated the rationale behind Rockstar’s preference for launching games on consoles first. “Rockstar always starts on console because I think with regard to a release like that you’re judged by serving the core,” he remarked in May. “Like really serving the core consumer. If your core consumer isn’t there, if they’re not served first and best, you kind of don’t hit your other consumers.”

This approach, however, has led to speculation that Rockstar may be banking on a ‘double-dip’ strategy, enticing gamers to purchase the title on both consoles and PC by staggering the releases. As a dedicated PC gamer who also possesses a PS5, the temptation to indulge in both versions is certainly palpable.

GTA 6 is set to release on November 19, 2026, for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
