Sony’s recent pivot away from disc-based gaming has ignited a fervent discussion regarding the future of physical game releases. Jibril-sama’s innovative approach involves a custom-made cartridge system utilizing repurposed 2.5-inch SSDs, acquired for approximately €7 each. These drives serve as storage for game data, seamlessly connecting to a PC via a SATA dock. This concept, while not groundbreaking in the realm of technology, gains significance as the industry increasingly embraces digital formats.
To enhance the user experience, Jibril-sama developed a straightforward script that leverages Steam’s URL protocol. This script not only directs users to a game’s page within the Steam client but can also be configured to launch a game automatically once the external SSD is connected to the dock.
