Aptoide Games Now Available in the US
Today marks a significant milestone in the world of Android app stores as Aptoide Games is now officially accessible through Google Play for users in the United States. This move comes after years of Google’s efforts to maintain a monopoly on app distribution for Android devices.
Aptoide, known for its focus on mobile games, was previously only accessible through preinstalls or sideloading. However, with this recent development, Android users in the US now have the option to download Aptoide Games directly from Google Play.
In a statement, Aptoide CEO and co-founder Paulo Trezentos highlighted the importance of this move, stating that it provides users with more choices, developers with additional distribution opportunities, and contributes to a more open and competitive ecosystem for Android.
Following a legal battle between Google and Epic Games, a US District Judge ordered Google to allow competitors access to the Play Store by 2024. This decision came after Epic Games sued both Google and Apple for removing Fortnite from their respective app stores.
As part of an agreement between Epic Games and Google, the Play Store now supports third-party app stores, allowing for more billing options, lower fees, and new programs for developers. Aptoide is among the first companies to leverage this new rule, signaling a shift in the app distribution landscape.
