Windows 11 24H2 Home and Pro reach end of support in 2 months

Microsoft has issued a timely reminder to its customers regarding the impending end of updates for specific editions of Windows 11. As of October 13, 2026, both the Home and Pro editions of Windows 11, version 24H2, along with Windows 10 Enterprise LTSB 2016, will cease to receive updates.

In a recent update shared through its message center, Microsoft emphasized the importance of this date: “After this date, devices running these editions will no longer receive monthly security and non-security preview updates containing protections from the latest security threats.”

Support Continuation for Enterprise and Education Editions

In contrast, the Enterprise and Education editions of Windows 11 24H2 will continue to enjoy mainstream support until October 2027, as noted on Microsoft’s support website. This distinction highlights the ongoing commitment to providing security and updates for enterprise users.

To ensure continued protection and functionality, customers are encouraged to upgrade to Windows 11 25H2, also referred to as the Windows 11 2025 Update. This update became generally available in September 2024 and can be installed through an enablement package.

For users operating Windows 11 24H2 Home and Pro editions that are not managed by IT departments, Microsoft has streamlined the upgrade process. These devices will automatically transition to Windows 11 25H2, although users retain the flexibility to choose when to restart or postpone the update.

To check for the availability of the update, eligible users can navigate to Settings > Windows Update and select Check for updates. If the device is ready for the upgrade, an option to Download and install Windows 11, version 25H2 will be presented.

For those seeking further details about Windows servicing dates, Microsoft provides resources such as the Lifecycle Policy search tool and the Windows Lifecycle FAQ page. Additionally, a comprehensive list of products scheduled for retirement or end of support in 2025 can be found on Microsoft’s support website.

In a related note, Microsoft has halted the rollout of security updates for devices running Home and Pro editions of Windows 11 23H2 as of November 2025. Furthermore, the company has extended the free Windows 10 Extended Security Updates (ESU) program for consumers by an additional year, now set to conclude in October 2027.

Looking ahead, Windows Server 2022 is also nearing its mainstream end-of-support date in October 2026, after which it will transition to extended support, allowing it to continue receiving security updates until October 14, 2031.
