Don’t tell Nintendo, but I turned GTA 5 into Pokémon Go using a mod

In the realm of modding, the pursuit of transforming Grand Theft Auto 5 into a version reminiscent of GTA 6 has become a daily endeavor. The journey has been both enlightening and entertaining, revealing some unexpected truths about the game’s universe. For instance, it appears that anything unfortunate enough to be struck by a vehicle traveling at supersonic speeds is unlikely to survive the encounter.

Yet, amid the chaos and the thrill of high-speed chases, a deeper realization emerged: Los Santos can feel quite desolate. While the anticipated narrative of GTA 6 revolves around a Bonnie-and-Clyde-esque romance, the existing trio of protagonists—Franklin, Michael, and Trevor—seem to navigate the sunlit roads in solitude. This prompted a creative urge to introduce companions into their lives, to enhance their adventures and perhaps even to cultivate friendships.

Pokémon Go GTA Edition

Enter the imaginative concept of Pokémon Go GTA Edition, a whimsical twist that reimagines the streets of Los Santos as a vibrant hunting ground for Pokémon. Instead of bustling crowds, the cityscape is now populated with familiar characters like Geodudes, Charmanders, and the elusive Pikachu—though the latter remained notably absent during my escapades. A Squirtle, however, made a delightful appearance.

In this peculiar modding experiment, it seems that only Trevor possesses the skills necessary for Pokémon hunting, or perhaps an earlier modification has interfered with the mechanics. Regardless, he took to the streets on Franklin’s motorbike, eagerly seeking new companions. In a series of what could be described as ‘drive-bys,’ I successfully captured a Geodude and a Squirtle, adding them to my growing roster of virtual friends.

However, not all Pokémon are eager to form bonds. A particularly feisty Charmander managed to escape my grasp, expressing its displeasure in a thick Eastern European accent reminiscent of the animated series. Our encounter escalated into a brief skirmish, culminating in a rather unfortunate outcome for the fiery creature. After a well-placed right hook, I left Charmander momentarily incapacitated on the pavement—rest assured, he merely fainted.

As the modding journey continues, the blend of creativity and chaos promises to unveil even more unexpected adventures in the world of Los Santos. Each day brings the potential for new discoveries, and the quest to reshape this beloved game remains as thrilling as ever.
