Microsoft is currently addressing a recognized issue that is causing delays or preventing some users from accessing the Microsoft Teams desktop client on Windows systems. This problem, identified as TM1466820, was acknowledged by the company at 16:45 EDT on Thursday. In light of the situation, Microsoft has recommended that affected users utilize the web or mobile versions of Teams as a temporary workaround.
According to Microsoft, users attempting to open Teams on Windows devices may experience initial loading failures or delays lasting up to two minutes. “While we’re focused on remediation, affected users may be able to avoid impact by utilizing Microsoft Teams on the web or alternative Teams access methods such as the Teams mobile app,” the company stated in an incident report shared with BleepingComputer.
Investigation and Analysis
The tech giant is actively analyzing service logs and telemetry data to pinpoint the root cause of the issue. Additionally, Microsoft has reached out to some affected users in an effort to gather more information and explore potential mitigation strategies.
Simultaneously, Microsoft is investigating a separate issue impacting Mac users, which is preventing them from joining Teams calls and meetings. This problem, tracked as TM1466659, was confirmed on Sunday at 08:32 EDT. Initially, Microsoft attributed the disruption to a code change affecting the Teams call and meeting service infrastructure. However, after further investigation, the company is reassessing this conclusion to better understand the underlying cause.
“Users may be unable to join calls or meetings in Microsoft Teams for Mac,” the company noted. “We’re reassessing our root cause understanding and reviewing service logs to isolate the source of impact, so that we can determine our next steps regarding impact remediation.”
Earlier this year, in April, Microsoft successfully resolved another issue that had blocked some Microsoft Teams Free users from engaging in chats and calls. Furthermore, on Tuesday, the company confirmed the existence of a bug that has been causing crashes and launch failures for Microsoft Teams and New Outlook users following the installation of Windows security updates released since the August 2026 Patch Tuesday.
In addition to these challenges, Microsoft has recently informed customers about an ongoing Exchange Online issue affecting multiple mailboxes, which is resulting in “Server busy” errors and delaying email communications with external domains.
