Microsoft admits a Windows 11 bug caused mouse stutter in games

This update addresses a notable issue that has been troubling gamers: mouse input stuttering in various titles. While this fix was not part of the optional preview update released in September, it has now been rectified.

The Windows 11 mouse input bug

Microsoft has opted not to disclose specific details regarding which games were impacted, the number of users affected, or the underlying cause of the bug. Consequently, it remains unclear whether all reports of erratic mouse movements stem from the same source. Over recent months, numerous users have voiced concerns following Windows updates, with some issues persisting despite attempts to replace mice or adjust settings.

A post on the Microsoft Q&A forum from June 2026 highlighted a user’s struggle with camera control in Star Wars: The Old Republic and Final Fantasy XIV. This user experimented with various settings on their Logitech G600 mouse, switched input devices, and even performed a clean system restart, yet the problem remained unresolved. Similar complaints have surfaced previously; for instance, in February 2025, users reported consistently laggy and jerky mouse movements on Windows 11 24H2.

Current discussions on Reddit echo these sentiments, with gamers noting jerky camera movements in The Division 2, despite the game itself running smoothly. In various threads, users speculate about potential causes, including mouse polling rates, drivers, and other hardware components.

While it has not been confirmed whether these particular cases are directly linked to the recently addressed Windows bug, Microsoft’s release notes affirm that at least one of the issues was indeed rooted in the operating system rather than the mouse hardware.

How to install the fix
