14 years after he began, streamer makes Minecraft history as he completes marathon walk to the edge of the world

A Journey Through Time in Minecraft

In a remarkable feat that spans over 14 years, YouTube and Twitch streamer Kurt ‘Kurtjmac’ Mac has concluded his ambitious expedition known as ‘Far Lands or Bust.’ This journey, which began on March 28, 2011, aimed to reach the elusive Far Lands—a region in Minecraft where the terrain generation algorithm falters, resulting in a chaotic landscape. After countless hours of gameplay, Mac finally arrived at his destination on October 4, 2025.

For those unfamiliar with the concept of the Far Lands, it represents a unique glitch within the game. Specifically, it occurs when players venture 12,550,821 blocks away from the original spawn point, causing the terrain generation to malfunction. Although this phenomenon has been eliminated in modern versions of the game, Mac continued his quest on the beta 1.7.3 build, preserving the essence of his original challenge.

Reflecting on his journey, Mac shared that it began as a spontaneous decision, one he did not fully comprehend in terms of the distance and dedication required. As the series gained traction, he drew inspiration from charity events like Zeldathon and Desert Bus for Hope, transforming his long trek into a fundraising initiative. Over the years, he has supported various charities, including Child’s Play, Direct Relief, PAWS, and the Equal Justice Initiative.

As he and his faithful companion, Wolfie, navigated a vast ocean towards the end of their journey, Mac’s excitement was palpable. “Oh! That’s a very big ocean,” he exclaimed, laughter punctuating the moment. This lightheartedness was captured during a live stream, marking a significant milestone in his adventure.

Upon reaching the Far Lands, Mac commemorated the occasion by placing a sign that read: “Here Farlanders first set foot upon Far Lands! October 4, 2025.” This achievement stands in stark contrast to the original claim made by Minecraft‘s creator, Markus ‘Notch’ Persson, who once stated that such a journey was impossible.

While the modern iteration of Minecraft no longer allows players to reach the Far Lands, the game continues to offer a plethora of enchanting worlds to explore through various seeds. Additionally, players can enhance their experience with an array of innovative mods, adding unique features to their gameplay.
