Android games will soon be compatible by default for Google Play Games PC, unless devs opt out of it intentionally

Google Announces New Strategy for Google Play Games PC Platform

At GDC 2025, Google revealed its plans to revamp its approach to promoting the Google Play Games PC platform. In addition to the traditional “Android to PC” conversions, Google Play Games PC will soon offer options for “PC Only” and “PC Limited Exclusivity” to incentivize developers to cater to PC gamers. This includes the introduction of a specialized Play Games PC SDK that enables developers to incorporate in-app purchases, enhanced security features, and more efficiently manage both mobile and PC game development within a unified environment.

Developers and publishers will also have the opportunity to earn up to an additional 15% revenue for native PC games. Unlike before, where developers had to manually opt into Google Play Games PC, the new default setting will be “opt-in”, making it easier for more games to enter the PC market. For gamers, the introduction of sidebar-based settings adjustments and multi-account/multi-instance capabilities (common in Android emulators) will enhance the overall user experience.

Furthermore, Google Play Points will offer more booster periods and bonus rewards exclusive to the PC platform, providing additional incentives for players. These changes mark a significant shift in Google’s strategy for the Play Games PC platform, aiming to better serve both developers and gamers in the evolving PC gaming landscape.
