Timberborn Approaches 1.0 Release with Exciting New Features

After four years of dedicated development in early access, Timberborn is on the verge of its much-anticipated 1.0 release. While the exact launch date remains under wraps, developer Mechanistry has provided a glimpse into the forthcoming enhancements that will elevate the gaming experience. Enthusiasts can even explore some of these features in the current build.

In a recent Steam announcement, Mechanistry emphasized that the 1.0 update will be “different from anything we’ve done before.” Instead of focusing on a singular aspect of gameplay, this update aims to “expand the game across the board,” incorporating numerous enhancements that both the developers and players have long desired.

Among the notable new features are:

  • Constructable Spiral Staircases: A fresh architectural element that adds depth to city planning.
  • Customisable City Banners: Players can now personalize their settlements with unique banners.
  • Graphical Enhancements: An updated graphical pass will refresh the game’s skyboxes and introduce light glare effects on fluids.
  • New Animations: A series of animations depicting beaver demises will be introduced, marking a significant addition to the game’s narrative depth. Mechanistry humorously noted, “It only took us four years (more, actually) to add the animation to beavers’ deaths!” While the studio hopes players won’t witness these animations too frequently, they add a layer of realism to the gameplay.

The extensive nature of the update is the primary reason for Mechanistry’s reluctance to announce a specific release date. The developer stated, “The resulting list of changes and additions is long, with even more coming, and they all require heavy testing.” Fortunately, testing is already underway, and players interested in experiencing the experimental 1.0 build can find detailed instructions on how to participate.
