Death Stranding 2’s PS5 release date is in June, let’s hope it doesn’t take eight months to hit PC this time

Exciting Developments at SXSW

During the recent SXSW conference, renowned game designer Hideo Kojima captivated attendees with a 45-minute panel dedicated to the much-anticipated Death Stranding 2: On the Beach. The highlight of the session was the announcement of the official release date: June 26, 2025, exclusively for PlayStation 5. While fans eagerly await details regarding the PC version, which will likely follow a similar timeline as its predecessor, the excitement is palpable.

For those eager to dive into the game early, preordering either the Collector’s Edition or the Digital Deluxe Edition grants access two days prior, on June 24. However, this early access strategy has sparked some debate among fans, particularly given the narrative depth of the game. The challenge of avoiding spoilers for a couple of days can be daunting, especially considering the intricate storytelling that Death Stranding is known for. Yet, the unique nature of its plot makes it difficult to spoil, adding a layer of intrigue to the experience.

The recently released 10-minute trailer, set to a mesmerizing soundtrack by Woodkid, showcases stunning visuals and evocative themes rather than revealing significant plot details. Viewers are treated to an array of striking imagery, including a winged cat, a pedalo, and a nod to the iconic anime Akira. Notably, the trailer features a cameo by Ma Dong-seok, known for his role in Train to Busan, alongside surreal elements like an electric duststorm and a rather unsettling scene involving Troy Baker.

As fans reminisce about the original game, many are inspired to revisit it before the sequel’s release. The previous PC launch followed an eight-month delay after the PlayStation debut, exacerbated by pandemic-related challenges. Nevertheless, players seem content to take their time, relishing the opportunity to immerse themselves in another extensive playthrough, which typically spans around 58 hours.
